I have no doubt to put Bill Frisell on my top list of guitarist to listen to. I've been a fan of him since many years ago, for the record he's one of the most productive guitarist in the scene by releasing a new album almost every year to this date. Today I revisited a collection from 2018 (which a friend of mine bought me this CD from Tower Records,Shibuya, I believe). This particular album has special place in my heart and mind, it opens, literally opens my vision as guitarist. I'm fascinated of how Mr. Frisell put an effortless aesthetic of playing solo guitar.

ps: this album used to be left in my car, as this music is good to keep your sanity when beating Jakarta's traffic 😀 😀 😀

Last few days I got stuck to this particular trumpet giant. He had been around for over 5 decades playing, yet still swung hard. My personal opinion is any trumpet player who came in just before Miles or even after him, they have a sparks from Harry (even early Miles too).

This is the album artwork from 1993 "Swinging' sweets". At his 78 Harry Edison still sounded very "sweets". Sure I encourage you to check out nonetheless his famous 12 bar blues entitled "Centerpiece", and compare to some previous and newer recordings of this piece. I hope we can discuss something here.

After Miles's Kind of Blue was being on heavy rotation on my playlist, I first thought Jimmy was not the drumer (instead for a while, my mind keept thinking Tony Williams was the drumer). But then I got to listen to all the personnel, one by one, which allowed me to look up further on their solo album or another work as a sidemen.

In 2011 I found out Jimmy Cobb was releasing a new album entitled "the meeting". It sounds fresh, an organ, a tenor sax, and a guitar, was a swing powerhouse led by no other than "the Pulse of Kind of Blue". The first track which is, still to this date, my favorite from the album is "Mountain Blues" a simple blues idea but executed very excelent.

Until couple days ago we heard a very sad news that Jimmy had left us. He would probably join Miles, Paul Chambers, Bill Evans, Wynton Kell, and of course Coltrane and Canonball for a sequel of Kind of Blue. Surely The Original Mob won't be complete no more.

Take a rest Mob Boss!!
